PROGRESS IN OUR WORK AT LAKE HIAWATHA BDE PSIN
Great progress has been made in our work at Lake Hiawatha Bde Psin. We appreciate the effort of Osprey and the thoughtfulness and the effectiveness of the trash boom installed on the 43rd street pipe in June 2023. It has made it so that our volunteers can spend less time picking up trash and more time doing restoration work to bring back ecological health to Lake Hiawatha Bde Psin. We planted thousands of native plants as we continue to work on the South side of the lake, converting large areas of turf back into native meadow and working to reintroduce native plants and medicines into the Lake Hiawatha Delta Wetland Habitat.

We collected 720 lbs of trash from Lake Hiawatha Bde Psin in 2024.
36 bags of trash were collected with each bag weighing 20 pounds ea.
each bag contains an average 1,267 items.
That equals an estimated 45,612 individual pieces of trash.
The trash is 91% plastic material.
This marks our tenth season of collecting trash from Lake Hiawatha Bde Psin.
Our total since we began collecting in 2015 is 12,420 lbs of trash.
The number of items removed is estimated to be 786,807 items removed by hand since 2015.
The average amount of trash removed per season is 62 bags per season or 1,242 lbs per season.
This year's quantity of 720 lbs is down significantly from previous years. We attribute that to the success of the trash boom.
